Hop Rocket ® India Pale Ale - 4.8% BREWED EVERY 100 BREWS - NEXT BREW IS 1300 - AVAILABLE LATE JAN 2012
A proper India Pale Ale (we have dropped the moniker IPA because of its deserved association with Insipid Pale Ale rather than India Pale Ale) brewed in the old style with only Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt and no Crystal Malt. It is a deep golden ale with a thirst quenching bitterness. This India Pale Ale is hopped with Target hops and finished with a large charge of wholeflower Perle hops for a Noble hop take on IPA! Now produced in our Hop Rocket®.
"...puts to shame some of the lacklustre beers of modest strength that masquerade as IPA. This sumptuous beer has plum jam and blackcurrant aroma and palate from the Bramling Cross hops, balanced by sappy malt and a long, lingering bitter, fruity and quenching finish." - Roger Protz about our 100th Brew India Pale Ale
Seasonal & Monthly Specials 2012
January / February Puddledock Porter 4%
A traditional dark brown winter ale brewed with Crystal and Chocolate Malts, hopped with Kent Northdown, Bramling Cross and Goldings hops for flavour and aroma.
Our ‘Puddledock Porter’ takes its name from the village of Puddledock and its association with Westerham’s famous resident, Winston Churchill. The possibility of Churchill’s receiving a dukedom after the war led to speculation about what his son would be known as. After discussions with Churchill, his private secretary reported that Churchill would never accept: “First of all what could he be Duke of? Secondly, even if he were Duke of Westerham, what would Randolph be? He could only be Marquis of Puddledock Lane which was the only other possession he had apart from Chartwell. And thirdly, quite seriously, he wished to die in the House of Commons as Winston Churchill.”
February to June

Jubilation Ale - Diamond Jubilee Beer 4%
Golden Ale brewed with Pale Ale and Caramalt. We hopped this beer with one hop from each of the decades of the Queen's life; all were bred in Kent and grown in Kent. Two hops were used for First Wort Hopping, four hops were then dosed in a Continuous Hopping regime. Wort was then passed through the Hop Rocket with four more hop varieties and finally the finished beer was Dry Hopped in the maturation tank. WGV (1932), Early Choice Golding (1948), Bramling Cross (1951), Progress (1967), Target (1972), Pilgrim (1984), First Gold (1996), Sovereign (2006) and Finchcocks' Hop X (2010). The first batch of beer was brewed with the help of Peter Darby of Wye Hops Ltd, the hopfather of four of the varieties we used and Ian Strang of Little Scotney Farm who grew 6 of the nine hop varieties for us.

Uppin Smoke - Polish Gratzen or Piwo Grodziskie 4%
Polish Gratzen or Piwo Grodziskie beer for Euro 2012 co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. A traditional Polish wheat beer made with oak smoked wheat malt and heaviliy hopped with Polish Marynka hops. This style of beer died out in the 1990s but rumours abound of its re-emergence; to help it on its way we have produced our interpretation of the beer with oak smoked wheat malt from Weyermann Maltings in Bamburg. Smoky, hoppy and bitter this beer will challenge your ideas about what beer can taste like. "Uppin" is an old Prussian word for cloud, which perfectly describes this cloudy, smoky wheat beer.

July to September
British Bulldog Gold - Premium Golden Ale 4.3%
To celebrate the Olympics, we are instilling our British Bulldog with a golden touch. Pale Ale malt and 5 types of Kent hops. Northdown, WGV, Bramling Cross, Goldings and Progress hops come together in this celebration of the hops of Kent in a golden ale bursting with flavour. Let's hope our athletes are as good as the beer.

July

Helles Belles - German Helles lager 4%
A traditional German style lager, brewed to a recipe from our friend, Markus Lotz of the Marktbrau in Nidda near Frankfurt. Lagered or matured for 4 weeks unlike the yellow fizz normally drunk in Britain today. The beer is made with lager malt, carapils malt and noble German Spalt Select and Hallertauer Perle hops. Fermented with a lager yeast and then cold conditioned or lagered for 4weeks. An experiment in bringing the real thing to Kent.
August
Bohemian Rhapsody - Bohemian style pilsener lager 4%
Straw yellow lager (yes that means lagered or matured for 6 weeks) hopped with Czech grown Saaz noble hops with a distinctive hop aroma and bitterness usually found in Bohemian pilseners. Brewed with Bohemian lager malt and fermented with a lager yeast and then cold conditioned or lagered for 4 weeks. Pilseners are traditionally quite bitter and this version is no different. Not for lager louts - its got too much flavour.

General Wolfe "1759" Maple Ale 4%
Our Autumn seasonal ale is the colour of turning maple leaves from the 13% Crystal Malt in the grist. In addition we add Maple Syrup to the copper. The brew is hopped with Bramling Cross hops which are a cross between an English Golding hop and a Manitoban (Canadian) wild hop. Brewed to commemorate General Wolfe who was born in Westerham and defeated the French at the Heights of Abraham in Quebec, 13 September 1759.
A firmly bitter but decidedly fruity, robust ale with toffee-malt notes, juicy blackcurrants and orchard fruits, plus a perfumed, floral background sweetness from the maple syrup. - Jeff Evans - Beer Writer
December
